12-year-old arrested as police hunt gang of young robbers
A 12-YEAR-OLD has been arrested after a gang punched and robbed two people in the city centre.
The first robbery happened in Ponsonby Terrace at 10.40pm on Sunday.
The 23-year-old victim was walking along when he was approached by six young people who punched him before stealing a bag containing a lap top computer.
Then, at about 2am the same night, a 28-year-old man walking in Great Northern Road was also approached by a gang of six.
He was punched and fell to the ground. While he was on the floor, the robbers took his mobile phone.
The group were all wearing dark hoodies.
Later that night, at around 4.45am, six youths were seen at St Peter's Churchyard.
They fled when police arrived but officers managed to detain two of them.
A 12-year-old and 15-year-old were later arrested on suspicion of robbery.
They have been bailed pending further inquiries.
Police say inquiries are continuing to trace four more teenagers.
Anyone with information should call police on 0345 123 3333 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“As the parent of a 12 year old I know where my child is 24 hours a day, as should all other parents of children that age. Ken is probably right in what he says that the childs parent(s) don't care. Perhaps when they are hauled into court, along with their offspring and charged with the same crime along with lack of care and control and wilful neglect of said 12 year old, it might just bring it home to them.”

“A 12 & 15 year old out at that time of the morning. I say whatever punishment they get, the same is dished out to their parents. Makie the parents pay and they may then try to control their kids, but any parent letting their 12 year old out all night probably doesnt care”

we're to soft on the youth of today, they think they can get away with their behaviour and.....they do!”
