41 jobs at risk as Genting reveals plan to close casino in Friar Gate, Derby
LEISURE giant Genting is planning to close its Friar Gate casino – putting 41 jobs in jeopardy.
The Malaysian-based company said that it had entered into a 30-day consultation period over the future of the Friar Gate venue and those employed there.
Should the proposed closure go ahead, the 41 staff affected will be offered the opportunity to apply for available positions at the Genting's casino at Riverlights.
The company has said that those at risk of losing their jobs would be kept informed of all other company vacancies throughout the consultation process.

A spokesman said: "The decision to put forward this proposal has been taken following the successful £6 million development of Genting's new premises in Derby – Genting Club Riverlights, which was completed in November 2011.
"We have decided to consolidate our operations in Derby and focus our efforts on the superb new facilities we have created at Riverlights so we can satisfy all our customers' requirements.
"This decision is consistent with Genting's ongoing strategy of investment and its commitment to improving quality across the provincial estate and we look forward to continuing investing in our properties to improve the customer experience."
