MORE than 50 firefighters spent the early hours of this morning tackling a blaze at a disused factory in Derbyshire.

The fire, in Bennett Street, Long Eaton, was reported at around 1.40am.

At its height, eight crews from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire fought the blaze, which was brought under control by around 4am.

Two aerial ladders were also needed and a fire service spokesman confirmed that owing to the asbestos roof on the factory, two people had to be treated at the scene for decontamination.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and a full fire and police investigation is due to start at 10am.

No-one is reported to have been hurt in the incident.
