‘We’ll look into whether we can cut road delays’
FIVE-MILE tailbacks from new roadworks on Derby’s inner ring road have prompted a hastily-arranged meeting of city council highways chiefs today.
Jams went as far back as Duffield on the A6 and Burnaston on the A38 as the £1.2 million scheme began.

Councillor Ranjit Banwait, cabinet member in charge of transport, said: “Any inconvenience caused to Derby’s commuters is a serious concern and we need to ensure we reach a balance between the maintenance work and keeping the city moving.
“I have instigated a meeting with the head of highways and other senior council officers to review events, the feedback we have received from public transport operators and members of the public to see what options are open to us to minimise the disruption.”

“Where was the initial impact assessment & foresight to prepare for what is clearly obvious to the average human being but not to Cllr.Bhanwait... And when he responds 'we'll look into it' that means they do not have a clue!”

“bit of a radical idea councillor - how about having this sort of meeting BEFORE the roadworks start? - the public of Derby knew that there would be chaos when these works started, yet you appear to have been taken by surprise - why is that?”
