AWARDS RECOGNISE COURAGE, KINDNESS, HARD WORK AND SPORTING PROWESS
FOR the past 14 years, Derbyshire County Council has hosted a Young Achievers awards night to recognise children and teenagers for their outstanding courage, talent, hard work and kindness.
This year, nearly 100 youngsters aged three to 18 were chosen to receive the special accolade.
And last night, they gathered with their families for a glitzy ceremony at Matlock's Highfields School, where they picked up their awards from ex-Derby County captain and Strictly Come Dancing star Robbie Savage.
Among those present was the leader of the council, Andrew Lewer, who told the audience it was a special occasion.

He said: "This evening is about recognising the good, amazing and just plain outstanding contributions young people make to life in Derbyshire.
"At the county council we know that young people have a lot to give to make local life better. And the majority of young people are doing good things in our schools, homes and communities.
"Unfortunately we do not get to hear enough about them, which is why we think it's important to hold this event tonight."
Young Achievers are nominated each year by a wide range of people including teachers, local councillors, family members, friends and sports coaches.
