MILES Addison is set to make his first start in more than three months tonight when Derby County tackle Championship leaders Newcastle United.

The Rams are forced to make more changes in defence for the game at St James' Park (5.20pm).

Centre-halves Shaun Barker (thigh) and Dean Leacock (knee) miss out, while Dean Moxey is suspended after being sent off in Saturday's home defeat by Blackpool.

Fredrik Stoor's loan spell expired after the Blackpool game and he has returned to Fulham.

Derby will have to reshuffle at the back yet again for what is a tough-looking test at Newcastle.

Jay McEveley, a stand-in centre-back for the last five matches, is set to move to left-back to replace Moxey and the Rams will turn to Addison (pictured below), who is still troubled by a foot problem.

His last start was in the defeat by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on September 19. He has made only three brief appearances as a substitute since.

"Miles has had one training session but he will probably have to go in there," said manager Nigel Clough.

Centre-half Jake Buxton made his first start in four months against Blackpool after being out with hernia and groin injuries.

"We didn't think Jake would do two games in 48 hours but it looks like he might have to now," added Clough.

"I thought Jake battled very well against Blackpool striker Ben Burgess. It is a big ask for him because he has come back in when the back four is struggling a bit.

"We have got away with Jay McEveley at centre- half but you can only keep getting away with it for so long. Eventually you need a proper centre-half in there but he will get the chance to go back to left-back now.

"We are still looking for a settled partnership at centre-back, centre-forward, anywhere, and we are halfway though the season. It might sound like excuses but it matters.

"We cannot even put two centre-halves out there, never mind two settled ones."

Paul Green and Kris Commons return to the squad tonight.

Green missed the Blackpool game with flu.

Commons has not featured in the first team for two months, since injuring a hamstring at Middlesbrough.

"Kris had a game against Burton last week, his first for quite a while, and the plan was always to involve him at Newcastle," said Clough.

"We had four options up front for Blackpool in Chris Porter, Paul Dickov, Rob Hulse and DJ Campbell.

"Chris Porter went over on his ankle in the game and we will see how that is.

"It was never the plan to play him twice in two days but we have Rob, DJ and Kris, who all should be fresh to have a go at Newcastle. Two of those, maybe all three, could line up."

“The club has an academy and this should be supplying players who could be chanced in the first team. We're not asking them to fight the taliban, we're asking seventeen-year-olds do you want a go at being a footballer? Maybe we have the next Rooney, Walcott or Gosling at Moor Farm, but instead of exploring these possibilities we bring in cronks on loan, reassign players to their weaker positions or risk unfit players. There are skillful players in the Development squad; the likes of Mendy, Prijovic and O'Brien. A healthy youth policy should by now be providing a source of new talenbt to the club. And at some distaste in typing this, look down the road and Forest do seem able to find and nurture talent from the school playing fields to the Park.”

“I have never in all my years watching football in general seen a team with a winger that cant cross, a central midfield that cant track opposition midfielders, full backs that cant mark and stick to wingers and block crosses. I dont blame the strikers at the club, our problem is in the middle of the park and at the back (FULLBACKS in particular) - why are we sending stoor back when his replacement is very possibly the worst right back in the league. Moxey and Mceveley are out of their depth in the league. Please for the love of Derby County spend some cash on this team MR GLICK and MR APPLEBY. No money spent will mean a nasty relegation battle that no one at the club wants!”

“My God, I¿m sorry Matty but if that¿s the team it will be a rugby score!! After Boxing Day Lee Croft needs to get some serious training in, he needs to loose about a stone and get himself fit. Jake Buxton will never be anywhere good enough for the Championship; he¿s a league 2 player at best, too slow, too small and no positional sense. Rob Hulse is dangerous if you get the ball into the box, however, tonight that is probably very unlikely. He needs to improve his play when he has his back to goal and he needs to work harder when the opposition have the ball. Tonight we¿ll need to keep possession whenever we get it as we¿ll probably spend long periods defending. For that reason Dickov must play and DJ should start alongside him as his pace may give us opportunities to get round the back of their defence ¿ the weakest part of their team. And finally Teale should never play for Derby again ¿ I¿m sick of saying it but a winger who can¿t cross is utterly pointless. On Boxing Day he had more ball than any one else in a white shirt and failed to deliver one single ball of any quality, he does the same thing every time ¿ cut inside and float meaningless little chips towards the keeper. It¿s not hard hit the by-line and whip the ball across hard with pace, high or low.”

“Think I will go down Burton today on a scouting mission - both from a point of view of what players we are likely to bring in during January and to prep for the league meeting next year.”

“I like the idea of the diamond too with Commons in the hole and Savage behind him. Personally I'd like to see Porter and Hulse start, Green and Pearson next to Savage and in an ideal world, if he didn't have to play at the back because of other injuries, Addison playing the holding role instead of Savage. Maybe even McEveley could play the holding role too?”

why dont clough put addison in middle of the park with green and pearson on left to replace teale and as for defence,we havent got one without barker n leacock !!”
