GARY Rowett is talking to Manchester City about extending the month-long loan of 19-year-old winger Adam Drury.

Drury will play in tonight's game at Oxford United and is showing signs that he can become an increasingly influential figure.

"The idea was that we might extend it if it was going well for both of us and I'm talking to Manchester City about doing so," said Rowett.

"He has good pace, he's lively and direct – he makes defenders defend.

"He's also quite mentally tough. He works hard and closes people down."

Drury was thrown in the deep end at the start of his loan, struggling to make an impact along with most of his team-mates as Burton went out of the FA Cup away to Leicester City.

But he has started to grow in confidence and, on Saturday against Barnet, improved as the game went on after a first half in which little went right for him.

"He's coming into games more and more and I can forgive a bad pass or two when someone is working as hard as him for the team," said Rowett.

"He got in the box behind defenders three times in the first half against Barnet without quite being able to make something of it."
