Alfreton Sunday League: Double hat-trick for Didi
Report for matches played on Sunday, February 14th 2010
Striker Stephen (Didi) Guilor proved to be a six-hit in scoring a double hat-trick that saw his HEANOR JOLLY COLLIERS side demolish opponents DEVONSHIRE ARMS 8-0 in their MG Financial Services third division encounter.
He opened the scoring in the 5th minute when picking himself up after being tripped to stroke home a penalty kick. Lee Goddard added a second almost immediately before Guilor walked the ball in for number three, then crossing for Andrew Millington to steer home goal number 4.
He completed his hat-trick shortly after the restart then added a fourth with a spectacular hit from fully 30 yards out. Number five came hot on its heels, and he completed a momentous day when converting from the spot again in the later stages of the game.
It wasn’t all one-way traffic, but Arms’ attacks foundered in the face of solid defending by centre backs Matt Guilor and Stuart Ryan. However, the margin of victory would have been even greater had it not been for Mark Yohans in the Arms’ goal who pulled off a number of impressive saves.
Top played bottom and the game went according to the script with BULLS HEAD running out easy 7-0 winners against SELSTON HORSE AND JOCKEY. Scott Moss, Craig Chaplin (2), Mick West, Matt McGuinness (2) and Joe Geeson goals wrapping up the points.
Craig Charity got four of MARLPOOL WHITE LION’s goals in their 5-0 win over ECLIPSE INN.
PHOENIX UNITED recorded a surprising 2-1 win over ALFRETON VICTORIA. Nicholas Smith and Lance Woodhouse were on the mark for the home team, whilst a reply from Des Shay was all the visitors could muster.
SWAN AND SALMON put a severe dent in CORONATION CLUB’s promotion push. Daniel Sheldon had recorded a hat-trick by the interval in a 4-1 score line, and had added to his tally before the end of the game. Danny Bennett and a Stephen White penalty compounded the visitors’ woes for whom James Marshall got the only reply as they went down 6-1.
Mitchell Sports Division One
LEABROOKS CORNER maintained their recent improvement and pulled off an improbable result in securing their first win of the season against previously 100% PINXTON MW. Mark Turner opened the scoring with a solo effort and young Chris Turner rocked the visitors with a second.
Although Jay Cooper pulled a goal back, it was a case of too little, too late for a disappointing Pinxton.
AFC SOUTH WINGFIELD are another team on the ascendancy as they demonstrated with a 3-1 home win over SHIRLAND MW; Jay Miles grabbing a hat-trick. Adam Bellamy got the visitors’ reply.
Out of Town Division Three
SOUTH NORMANTON BLUEBELL had beaten HILCOTE MW 4-2 last week in a game that went unreported; Shaun Churms and Matthew Welsh each scoring twice. They had reason for some optimism, therefore, before their second versus top match in this division against local rivals SOUTH NORMANTON VILLAGER.
However, they came to earth with a bump in going down 0-6. Lloyd Davis (2), Richard Lee (3) and Joe Johnson got the goals that open up a gulf between their side and the rest of the pack.
Darren King got three in a day of hat-tricks, and Andy Eley the other as RIPLEY WHITE LION won 4-2 away at CLOVERNOOK, for whom Adam Shaw and Darrel Galvin netted.
GALLOWS INN beat RIPLEY HORSE AND JOCKEY 6-3; Scott McCabe (2) and Luke Beresford goals were to no avail for the away side.
NORMANTON UNITED proved too strong for BULLS HEAD RESERVES; Wade Marriott, Jimmy Barry and Ricky Hill getting the goals.
PJs SNOOKER CLUB went down 2-3 to CASTLEWOOD UNITED and provided no match details.
DCFA SUNDAY CUP
FC WELFARE exited the competition to a very good GREAT ROCKS side 0-5.
The League was guaranteed a side in the semi-finals though in the face of the clash between local rivals RAINBOW INTERNATIONAL and CRIB BAR.
A goal from Adam Nicholls for Crib and an Aaron Brady reply took the game into extra time, when up popped Chris Green to hit the winner that sends Crib into the last four, in what was an excellent game of football and a sound advertisement for the League.
