A lone strike from Gavin Mee in the first 10 minutes of the Dick Windle semi-final  was enough to secure visitors’ FC WELFARE a 1-0 victory over RAINBOW INTERNATIONAL, and a coveted cup final berth alongside AFC South Wingfield later in the season.

Division One

It was back to league action for CRIB BAR after securing their place in the DCFA Junior Sunday Cup final the previous week. Their cup run proved to be no distraction as they swept aside table-toppers KILBURN FC 5-1 in their away match. Ben Summers, Matt Phillips (2) and Kyle Wadsworth were the goal scorers; Jay Furlong notching Kilburn’s consolation effort.

Jay Miles is in a rich vein of form for AFC SOUTH WINGFIELD at the moment, and scored all three in his side’s 3-1 win over LEABROOKS CORNER for whom Lee Homiak netted from a penalty kick.

WESTWOOD ROYAL OAK returned from their trip to PINXTON MW with all three points following an emphatic 6-0 win. Tim Moore was the game’s top scorer; he got four. Jake Wright and Jamie Else weighed in with the others.

Division Two

A back-to-strength ALFRETON VICTORIA proved much too good for MARLPOOL WHITE

LION. Striker Ady Whitmore got four, including three assists from Craig Brooks playing in an unfamiliar attacking support role. Brooks also found himself on the score sheet along with two-goal Brett Sharpe.

ECLIPSE INN beat DEVONSHIRE ARMS 4-0 thanks to two goals each from Chris Gladstone and Elliott Barlow; one of the latter’s coming after the man-of-the-match had beaten seven players in a mazy run.

Tom Pepper Bowl

BULLS HEAD beat SELSTON HORSE and JOCKEY 4-0 in a game that went true to form. There was a bit of an upset, though in another tie that saw ROSE AND CROWN go down 0-3 to JOLLY COLLIERS for whom Steven Guyler got two and brother Matt the other.

PHOENIX UNITED are on a roll at the moment, and proved too good for the home team SWAN and SALMON. A prodigious leap by striker Lance Woodhouse resulted in his planting home a firm header from a corner kick to give his side an early lead.

However, Daniel Sheldon ran on to a through ball and past a static defence to level things up. Stefan White was commanding in the air at the back but the pace shown by the Phoenix front line was causing problems for the home team.

It was no surprise when Andrew Flint set up Nicholas Smith to poke in number two and it was Flint who stepped up to hammer home a penalty kick following a trip soon afterwards.

Steve Clements reduced the deficit on the stroke of half time when driving the ball in after a scramble following a corner kick. Shortly after the restart, Luke Whiting’s free kick eluded everyone and ended up in the net, and from then on it was virtually all one way as the visitors ran in further goals; Woodhouse laying claim to what was an own goal and Flint and Smith adding to their tallies in a 7-2 win.

Division Three

Despite Scott Palmer’s penalty miss, goals from Martin Bearder and a Jamie Briggs crackerjack were enough to send BULLS HEAD RESERVES home empty handed; Dan Bostock getting their reply in a 2-1 result.

RIPLEY WHITE LION and CASTLEWOOD UNITED fought out a 1-1 draw, whilst GALLOWS INN had little trouble in disposing of CLOVERNOOK 5-1.

NORMANTON UNITED and PJs SNOOKER CLUB met in back-to-back games in a move to alleviate end-of-season fixture congesture. Ricky Hill and young Jimmy Barry got the goals in a 2-0 win for United in the opening match, and the same pair along with James Pearce scored in the second game as they completed the double by a 3-1 winning margin; Fletcher scoring for their opponents.
