PUPILS at an Ashbourne school have been sent home after it was hit by severe flooding.

Firefighters were on the scene at Parkside Community Junior School, in Cokayne Avenue at 9.50am.

A fire service spokeswoman said the flooding was caused when water from a ditch at the neighbouring Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School overflowed.

She said: "The flooding is severe. Firefighters are still at the scene."
