ASTON-ON-TRENT are the new leaders of the Marston's Derbyshire County League after pulling off a big run chase at home to Staveley Welfare.

Chris Bullimore's 82 fired Staveley towards 250-7 but Aston had almost three overs to spare when they got past the target.

Shahid Khan added 50 to his 3-61 but Aston's overseas player, Zahid Mansoor, was the big driving force, missing out on a century by only four runs.

Aston have now won half of their 12 games, while Rolls-Royce, who they have replaced at the top, have now drawn seven of their 11.

Royces still have a game in hand on Aston and are only five points behind but they were frustrated on Saturday to fall just short of passing a target of 177-9 set by Matlock.

Royces captain Naeem Akhtar held Matlock back with 4-28 from 14 overs.

But, when Matlock bowled, veteran spinner Steve Haslam did a similar job for them, conceding only 34 from 15 overs, while opening bowler Adam Burton conceded only 28 from his 12.

As last week, when they were beaten for the first time, Rolls-Royce lost wickets steadily and wicketkeeper Zaheer Abbasi batted through from number four to finish on 74 not out.

This time, they did not lose the last wicket and closed on 175-9, taking 11 points from the game.

Rolleston are up to third in the table after taking maximum points at Nutbrook.

They posted 211, Anton Williams top-scoring with 46, but Nutbrook were bowled out for 150, John Thompson taking 5-40 and Rizwan Akbar 4-27.

Shipley Hall will feel they are within touching distance of escaping the relegation places after landing their first league win of the season in a spectacular run chase at Marehay.

Australian Dan Watson hit 102 as Marehay reached 255-6 but Shipley skipper James Cokayne was in devastating form, as his side cruised past the target in 41.1 overs, with only two wickets down.

Cokayne crashed 122 from 111 balls, with 11 fours and five sixes.

He was well supported by Stef Gamble in a second-wicket stand of 125 and then added an unbroken 92 with Mark Starr.

Shipley are now only a point behind both Marehay and Nutbrook.

Clifton are starting to put a poor start behind them and enjoyed a six-wicket win at Swarkestone, Nick Hopewell taking 4-40 and Rifatullah Mohman 3-47 in the home side's inadequate 146.

Campbell Ogilvie eased to 70 not out as Clifton won with 21 overs to spare.

Denby knocked up the highest score of the day, 325-6, with their South African, Peter Furstenburg, relishing Stainsby Hall's short boundaries and scoring 128 from 68 balls, with 10 sixes and 12 fours. Joe Greenhalgh hit 75.

In the reply, Denby opening bowler Ahtesham Yaqoob proved hard to get away, taking 3-25 from 13 overs.

Andy Barlow scored 82 and Alan Worth 52 as Stainsby hung on for the draw at 211-9.

Clay Cross scored 260-2 and cruised to a 120-run win over Darley Dale to open up a 44-point gap at the top of Division 2N.
