Whether it's an intimate meal or a huge party you're looking for, there are plenty of places which fit the bill.
Some venues in the city centre will offer entertainment as part of the package.
Head to picturesque country inns for deliciously different dishes, such as game, eaten in front of a glorious open roaring fire.
Alternatively, head to the city centre for a chic lunch – or hire out hotel venues and you might find Santa is a surprise guest.
There are many options in Derby and beyond and the pick of the bunch will soon get snapped up.
Make sure the venue will be suitable for most of your party-goers. Find out if anyone has any special dietary requirements. Vegetarians are usually easily catered for, but vegans and those on a gluten-free diet are advised to check in advance if their needs will be met.
Do people want to dance the night away, sit back and enjoy an evening's entertainment, or simply relax and dine together? Ask around before you take the plunge.
And few final thoughts – don't forget your frock or suit hire, your hair and how you are going to get home when the DJ finally pulls the plug.
It can be almost impossible to find a taxi in party season, so make sure you book yours well in advance.
Dress hire is also best organised well ahead. If your party is fancy dress, or if it's a formal, black tie ball, make arrangements to have a fitting and reserve yourself a costume for the big night.
The same goes for a visit to the salon. Remember, if you intend to have your hair restyled or coloured, you'll need to allow sufficient time on the day for an appointment that may take longer than usual.
Whatever the occasion, black-tie affair, a club night or a simple Christmas lunch, get into the party spirit, let your hair down and enjoy – but don't overstep the mark.
Leaving the booking until the last minute could result in a night people are desperate to forget. Do your homework and book early and your Christmas party will be an evening to remember.
