“There is no player in the Derby squad that can do what Sammon does. His hassling defences and immense work rate are vital to us. If Clough dared put Theo and Wardy up front as a pairing then you can guarantee we would look worse and defences would kick us off the field. DCFC can't expect to have a striker that is strong, quick and contain a high amount of on the ball skill. In Conor we have a strong striker who for his build, is quick... His efforts on the ball go un-noticed too. For example, his 1-2 with ward during the forest match when ward hit it effortlessly high and wide was placed exactly where it needed to be by Sammon as he held off the defender.

Lets try and support the players that help the club with the ugly stuff and hard work.”

“I am happy that the lads all got a call up great for them and our club,

Wish the rams fans would support Sammon a little more dont agree with he does not work hard enough,
Is he the most mobile/agile No! however he works hard always wants the ball and has looked limited due to the fact that he generally plays up front on his own and he is not a player who takes people on, however with Jamie Ward back and hopefully playing along side him and staying fit,? then i think we shall see a lot more positive performances from sammon up till the end of the season.
So come on Nigel 4-4-2- please”

“RamsfanBaz - all you're describing there is a). someone with a negative fixation on one player (i.e. yorself) and b). frustration that there's only ONE striking option.

What do you want Sammon to do - be brilliant in the air, to tirelessly hassle defenders, to be a lethal finisher and have deft of passing touch?

If yes, magic up about £5milllion + for Clough to go and sign someone like that and the rest of us will back you in getting Sammon sold.

Oh, so long as you also magic up the stiker to play off him too.”

“Conor Sammon is 5'10.. Not 6'2

I'm very pleased that the 3 of them will get the opportunity to train with the Irish national squad because it's quite doubtful that any of them will get a game. It can only improve them as footballers though.”

“I think I trust Trappatoni, Clough, Metgod and Martinez over disgruntled fans. Well done Sammon, and Hendrick and Keogh. Well deserved.”

“Conor Sammon doesn't want the ball?

Say he isn't a great striker, say that his control sometimes lets him down, but to infer that he doesn't work his socks off and he doesn't want the ball is just crazy.”

“Connor Sammon, for a man of 6'2 or whatever height, can simply not win a header, forget the lack of movement or his pace, but a man of his stature, should be able to win a header!!”

“The sort of 'rams fan' who has been a STH for 35yrs.

I've had many conversations about this. Someone described him as a 'Bovril' player at the weekend .

I am not a fan and, I'll explain why:

I sit in the North Stand, in the middle, about 2/3 of the way back. I look up the pitch and can see the game 'open-up' in front of me very clearly and easily.

I study the man relentlessly. My main grievance is his movement (or lack of it) when we have the ball in midfield. The mid-fielders are LOOKING FOR AN OPTION. Sammon doesn't offer that option readily enough!! He ambles, sideways, crab-like. His marker shadows him. He ambles the other way, crab-like . His marker shadows him. Consequently we very quickly run out of ideas. Invariably an attack will break down and we'll end up going sideways, or backwards.

I would like him to make an 'arcing' run perhaps. If not, try and find a yard of space and WANT the ball to his feet. He doesn't. If not point somewhere, where he WANTS the ball. He doesn't. JUST WANT THE F-ING BALL!!!!

I have seen occasions this season (Bryson V Middlesbrough in particular) when his team mates have become very frustrated and told him this. I sympathise.

People say his work rate is good but, if you study him, as I do, it's actually very poor at times. He's lazy and does not make the effort to be involved. He actually 'hides' frequently in the game.

    Furthermore:-

    His control is very poor.
He wins VERY few headers (particularly for a man of his 'stature'.
    He frequently loses the ball.
    He has poor awareness.
    He has poor vision.
    He is not particularly fast.
    He has poor composure.
    His is a poor finisher.

    Apart from that he's ok!

YES, I see the occasional decent thing he manages but people tend to notice that because it's usually an exception on his part.

We have to remember this man is a highly paid PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER. He is in the very top percentile of people who play football on the planet... he should be able to perform aspects of his job well, occasionally.

If a mechanic mends you car, does he get a round of applause?

Teach him the above in training, it's not rocket science!!”

“Those people who can't see Conor Sammon's contribution to games make me laugh, he is clearly a good lead man. What sort of 'rams fan' would not be happy their players are getting a taste of international football?”

“Well done to the guys. They've worked hard for the call up.

It's nice to be able to say - Derby County have international player's. Good stuff.”
