ILKESTON have secured the services of vastly experienced defender Rob Kozluk.

The 35-year-old utility player, who began his career at Derby County, will go straight into the Robins' squad for tomorrow's Evo-Stik League Premier Division match at home to Frickley Athletic.

Kozluk, a former England under-21 international who has had spells with Sheffield United and Barnsley, will also take up a coaching role within the youth set-up at the New Manor Ground.

“It’s a fantastic signing for us and I’m really excited about it from both points on view," said Ilkeston manager Kevin Wilson.

“Although Rob has not been playing this season, he has been training regularly with Chesterfield and, in my opinion, he is still more than capable of doing a job for a Football League club.

“He has vast experience with more than 300 League games at a high level and that’s a commodity that we feel we’re a bit short of at the moment.

"Obviously, his ability to play in numerous positions will also be a big asset.

“He has an excellent pedigree and will be good in our dressing room - but I’m equally excited about what Rob can do for us in a coaching capacity.

“He is keen to work towards his B Coaching Licence and we’re giving him the platform to achieve that by working every day with the scholars.

"He lives in Derby, so travelling is not an issue, and apart from being good for us and him, it will be great for the young boys to get the benefits of his experience.”

“Great player. One of the daftest decisions I think Jim Smith made, letting him go to Sheffield United. I think we got Borbokis as part of the deal or something like that....Anyway...B***dy stupid. Good luck in you new career. (I would still have him at Derby!)”
