DERBY games software developer Eurocom has closed down with the loss of 42 jobs.

Two weeks ago, the company announced that it was in financial difficulties and made 155 people redundant in an attempt to restructure and save the business.

However, contracts for which Eurocom was in negotiation have not been secured, resulting in all remaining members of staff being made redundant and the firm closing its doors after 25 years' trading.

    “@DerbyBNB

Respectfully, though you make some good points BNB I don't think you're quite listening.
I'm not sure whether you're a genuine innovator, an employer/employee with an axe to grind or a grumpy DT contributor.

I've used this site because this is where the unfortunate demise of the business has been published locally. I don't believe in using recruitment agencies, and anyway, I'm looking for partners not employees; more of a co-operative; people with burning desire, a positive attitude, commitment and 'want to' philosophy – and a sense of humour, which most geeks have.

I'm not offering jobs or salaries per se, but they'll be available to the right people.

Perhaps those I need are still in uni or developing stuff in their bedrooms like the good old days. Where did you start programming/designing? How old were you? What year was that? What machine did you use? Which language? Or are you a modern day plug and play programmer?

    In response to your post:
I don't have "zero solutions to [my] own problems", because I don't have problems. I have a brief.

Until people come forward to indicate their interest in a different creative opportunity, rather than diss the idea, how can any required investment be identified? X tb of memory, Y software and Z access to functions is irrelevant until you know what you are going to do with the kit. Allow £$€¥ 20k per user? Where do you find your investors?

Yes, Cloud is the obvious business option – hence the opportunity to work away from a physical office or premises. And if you want to discuss Gateways, Security, Enterprise, SOAP, B2B Integration et al, please do; on another site maybe.

I'm sorry you don't think the DT site is an appropriate place to put forward proposals or opportunities. I'm tending to agree with you judging by the negativity I've encountered.

I expected some cynicism, and a few oddball comments but I really hoped someone would reach out. Never mind.

Whatever happens, I do hope that all the people who are no longer employed by the company find something suitable in the near future.”

If you don't want to put your personal details here on this website, and you are as entrepreunurial as you like to think you are - and hey, lets thing 'CLOUD'

Why not set up a free gmail account? Movg4wdintheQ@gmail.com?

Why not set up a free skype account Movg4wdintheQ?

Why not post an annoymous request on any number of job boards that cover this sector?

And solicit responses to your idea that way?

You're first hurdle 'why diesnt this website have a way to connect?!' - and you fell at it. Doesn't bode well for anything else you do does it?

Writing "...There's no start-up capital available, no premises and no kit. Initially, use your own kit, work from home, think cloud. Think Branson..." - makes you sound like an awful chancer. You may very well not be - but you've offered nothign in the way of detail of what it is you actually expect a person to do, nothing by the why of your vision or chops.

There are lots of ways you could do what it is you want to do - but you're isntantly moaining about something not being easy - tech entrepreneurs don't see problems and moan, they see problems and come up with solutions.

You have offered zero solutions to your own problems.”

    “@ all comments

How much money would you like to have invested?

What hardware/software would you like to access?

What sort of a project do you want to work on?

What are your skills? (not your qualifications)

Why did you work for your previous company?

    What are your ambitions?

    Do you have ideas?

    What are your dreams?

Answer these questions then write something meaningful and positive,to yourself if not me.

If you happen to be a manic depressive with ideas that's fine too.

That's not a joke, it's an open request for people with mental or psychological challenges or those outside the usual employment sphere to join the conversation.

I don't have any prejudices - if you're part of the gaming infrastructure, or want to be, or have been, please comment.

Computer nerds are fine, geeks are fine, why should you all work for Google et al?

Derby should stay on the map.”

    “@Oddbike

    Thank you for your comments.

    I'm not a 'barstool general'.

It's not 'an idea for a game'.

I have faith in my proposal and being rich is not a requirement - I'm fortunate in that I already have sufficient.

I am a business person, I am not a client.

I have not criticised the company, its management, it's products or its employees.

I can't offer a 'bail out'. I'm asking if anyone would like a new opportunity.

There are some raw nerves out there - you and BigBadBourbon and your 'likers' might be interested in a proposal in the near future when the situation has eased.

As I said in my original post, if you really want to get in touch, contact the DT with your contact details and ask them to post them on and we can get in touch.”

    “@BigBadBourbon

    Thank you for your feedback.

    To clarify:

I have a Skype name, Facebook page(s), Twitter a/c, websites and a phone number. I'm on LinkedIn.

I don't publish them on this site because they are of no importance to most DT readers and open to abuse by the regular posters who, to put it politely, are 'alternative attitudes to society people' .

I'd like to help local people, what better place than in the local press? You read it - whoever you are. I wonder how many other innovators, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists you think look at the local skill base to decide whether investment is worthwhile? Building Toyota's body plant, for example, would hardly have been a good idea in Devon.

I believe a forum for 'ordinary' people would be helpful. Job Centres, Chambers of Commerce, Recruitment Agencies - why not a job match forum?”

“Movg4wdintheQ: In the games industry, we hear talk like yours all the time. Normally from barstool generals. "I got this great idea for a game! No-one else has done it! And you can develop it at home for no money on your own kit. Send it to me every day, and I'll tell you when it's right. Then I'll sell it and cut you in on the profits!"

Seriously ... if you have faith in your idea then YOU need to put the money up. That includes buying kit, renting office space and paying wages. If the idea works, then you are entitled to become very rich, and call yourself a business person. Then you're thinking like Branson. Until you do that, you're just another client from hell.

If a company with 25 years hardcore experience in the games industry has fallen to an unpredictable and changeable market, and didn't have your genius idea to keep their 200 employees working (they already had the office and the kit) doesn't that tell you something?”

“Terrible news for all involved, and for Derby as a city.

@Movg4wdintheQ I bet Branson would think up a way of communicating with these people without bashing the local newspaper. Set up a Skype name and comment it here. Set up a Facebook page. Set up a twitter account. Set up a LinkedIn profile - search for eurocom employees. So very many ways.”
