The rider of a moped has been confirmed dead after an incident on the A38 in Staffordshire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the northbound carriageway between Lichfield and Alrewas at 5.25am today.

Two rapid response vehicles and an ambulance were sent to a location given as just north of the Streethay junction.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews found a young man lying near to a moped.

“They immediately started advanced life support but sadly it quickly became apparent that there was nothing that could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“It was not clear what had happened.”
