“Was tailback in other direction around 9/10 am just due to the roadworks or was it related to this collision?”

“Speed limits are, to a degree, irrelevant, it is driver skill and experience that accounts for most accidents. Many drivers of Porsche 911s that can do 190mph top speed are safer drivers than some youngsters in Ford Kas.”

“"by the way the Borrowash section of the A52 and beyond was planned in the 1930s "
No it wasnt, not in its current layout
I'm sure drivers can read, but as you said yourself, its only advisory, not a legal limit
The bend in terms of its radius, visability etc is designed to be taken perfectly safely, during normal weather and road conditions at 70mph
there are thousands of similar slip roads on the road network around the country, as well as farm access tracks, service station or laybys all with similar visability and short acceleration areas etc
They are all perfectly safe if people drive correctly approaching them and entering / exiting them. That is too say, not too fast, and equally not too slow. Showing consideration for people at the junction or already on the main road in front or behind them. Remember the saying - mirror, signal, manouvere
There is no need for them to be re-designed, it is not a road layout that is dangerous per-se but the people using it”

“The A52 may have a 70 mph speed limit but the advisory sign at the bend is 50 mph. Not much hope if drivers can't read.
.......... by the way the Borrowash section of the A52 and beyond was planned in the 1930s although much was not built until later. The slip roads are dangerous and need to be altered if we are to have safe access. Many drivers pull into the outside lane (if free) to allow people to exit Borrowash on the A52 to Derby side slip road because of the danger of speeding traffic.”

"There needs to be cameras on this stretch of road. Its always a problem especially on the "50 mph" Spondon bend
what 50mph Spondon bend?
The limit is 70mph, if there is a restriction sign there (and I don't recall there is) its only an advisory one
"Yes there is a heavy traffic build up most mornings but with careful driving there will be fewer accidents.Inevitably the problem is caused by bad driving, often the higher powered cars and lorries."
It is equally the people pottering along at 50mph, in the inside lane that either do not read the road and do not allow merging traffic at the junctions you mention space to enter the road at a sensible speed to merge with the traffic, or who suddenly pull over to the outside lane without indicating when a car 'jumps out' at them at the junction, without checking their mirrors for the car quite legally and safely approaching them at 70mph
Like you say, its bad driving to blame. Not the road layout.
And that part of the A52 was built between 1957 and 1980 not the 1930's”

“yes, those high powered Fiestas and Chevrolet Aveos and Hyundai Getzes are a real menace.”

Again the slip road access from Victoria Avenue and Cole Lane Borrowash needs to be improved. These were designed in the 1930s!!”
