BREAKING: Snow affecting weekend's sporting programme

THE winter weather is having a major impact on the weekend's local sporting programme.

A string of non-league football matches have been postponed due to snow.

Borrowash Victoria's FA Vase fourth round tie at home to Ascot United has been called off and will now take place next Saturday, weather permitting.

Ilkeston's trip to Buxton in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division has also gone down, as has Matlock Town's match at Hednesford Town.

In the division below, Belper Town's visit to Carlton Town has been postponed, along with Gresley's home match against Lincoln United and Mickleover Sports' game with Chasetown.

Long Eaton United's Northern Counties East League Premier Division fixture at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway has been called off, along with the East Midlands Counties League matches involving Graham Street Prims and Holbrook Sports.

The rugby fixture list has also taken a hit, with games featuring Derby, Ilkeston and Burton among those to be postponed.

Back to football and Northampton Town were this morning working to clear snow from their pitch in a bid to get their League Two match with Burton Albion on.

And it was a similar story at AFC Telford United ahead of their Blue Square Bet Premier clash with Alfreton Town.
