MATT Neale will have to wait for a more comprehensive answer to the question he put to Gordon Brown.

He was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer in the Latvian capital Riga in June, along with David Birkinshaw.

Despite no evidence being heard at an extradition hearing in London, a judge agreed both men should stand trial in the Baltic state.

They were found innocent but prosecution solicitors have appealed against the court's verdict, meaning both men will have to travel back to Latvia early next year to again clear their names. Mr Neale asked Mr Brown how he could find himself facing an appeal when he no new evidence had been brought forward.

Mr Brown answered: "Every country's judicial system is different but normally an appeal has to be based on new reasons."

He vowed to contact Mr Neale's MP to find out more.

Afterwards, Mr Neale said: "It was what I expected. I guess you can't expect them to know all the details there and then so I'm not surprised I didn't get a full answer."
