"I can't believe he's here. I can't stop looking at him."
She said the couple had left the sex of the baby a surprise.
"We didn't want to know," she said.
"We were going to call the baby Amelia if she was a girl. We had that name ready but we didn't decide on a boy's name.
"Now, we've got some thinking to do."
Their son was born at 2.17am weighing 7lbs and 15.5oz.
Vicky said that, although she had a smooth pregnancy, her labour was more difficult.
"I had a fine pregnancy but I had to be induced on Monday because he had his back to me and was hitting my pelvis.
"It ended up with me having a Caesarean section.
"But he's here now and he is definitely the best New Year's Day present we could have wished for."
Gavin, 24, said: "He's our first child. I'm speechless.
"My family are over the moon as they wanted a boy because the boys are outnumbered in our family.
"There are five girls in the family and now there are two boys.
"We've bought everything in neutral colours. But we will be going on a shopping spree as soon as we get out of the hospital."
Sofia Imran and her husband Mohammed also welcomed a baby boy into the world yesterday. Their son, whom they have not yet named, was born at 1.11am, weighing 7lbs 9oz. He arrived four days early.
Mrs Imran, who already has a four-year-old son, said the baby's name would be chosen by her husband.
"In Pakistan it is traditional for the men to choose the baby's name so I am waiting for my husband to decide."
The 25-year-old, of Leacroft Road, in Derby, added: "I'm very happy.
"He's the best New Year's gift. He is a gorgeous present."
