Battle continues for former Ripley mother Lorraine Allen
A MOTHER whose conviction of killing her baby was quashed has taken her fight for compensation to the European Court of Human Rights.
Lorraine Allen, formerly of Long Eaton but now of North Yorkshire, was jailed for three years in October 2000 after being convicted of the manslaughter of her four-month-old son, Patrick McGuire.
But her conviction was quashed in 2005 when new medical evidence cast doubt on the case. Since then, she has been battling to receive a Government payout for a miscarriage of justice. In 2008, the Court of Appeal upheld the Home Office's decision that she did not fit the criteria for a payout.
