A CYCLIST was hit by a beer bottle thrown from a car.

The 27-year-old man was cycling along Nottingham Road, Risley, at about 3pm on Monday, when a man drove alongside and threw the bottle at him. He was not injured.

Officers are investigating whether it is linked to an incident in November where the same man was cycling along the same stretch of road and a motorist shouted a racist insult at him.

The car is described as looking like a black van-style taxi that would probably seat between six and eight passengers.

“Well said, Yorkyram; this behaviour is actually bullying in its worst form. Fortunately it is a tiny minority of people. I think it is all to do with the person; I'm sure the person who threw the bottle probably also drives very close behind other cars which are travelling within the speed limit, and they probably barge into people on the pavement; the person is simply a beligerent bully. Unless we all, and including the police and the courts, face up to these people they will continue to bully others. They must be stood up to and dealt with as a school bully would and not just ignored; they won't go away of their own accord. I'm glad there are a good few supportive ratings so far relating to this story.”

“Full beer bottles I could handle, I'd try and engineer them into my rucksack.

This is also why my handlebars always have a few handy grenades on.”

“What these morons don't understand or are so thick they have no morals is this..people on bikes are most likely to also own a car so they are motorists too!..and vise versa..why then do some people look at someone on a bike as a cyclist and nothing more..like they are the devil on wheels!..they are other humans..with family and loved ones just like everyone else weather they're on a bike, train, bus, or whatever, it dosn't give anybody any god given right to abuse others because they are riding a bike..but sadly they seem to think they have, it's all about respect and remembering that one day we may be driving a car, and another we may be riding a bike, or jogging, or sat watching the world go by bothering nobody..but then when they do get brought to book they usually receive no more than a good telling off. no deterrent means increase in these kind of incidents, time for much higher punishment and send out the message which will make these idiots think twice before acting like total idiots towards others!!!”

“This sort of abuse happens quite often and usually goes unreported
Hence many cyclists resorting to videoing their commutes”
