A TORN hamstring has denied Conor Doyle a chance to show what he can do on the right side of Derby County's midfield.

Doyle faces four to six weeks out after suffering the injury playing for the Reserves last week.

Nigel Clough was planning to hand the 20-year-old games between now and the end of the season.

"It is a blow for Conor and bad timing because as soon as we got to the safety mark, points-wise, we were going to take a look at him on the right side of midfield," said the manager.

"With right-back John Brayford out and Paul Green probably having to stay at right-back, it was an ideal chance to take a look at Conor, once we had sufficient points in the bag.

"He has done ever so well in training but now he is likely to be out for most of the rest of the season."

Nathan Tyson started on the right side of midfield against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday and Ben Davies has also filled the role at times.

Doyle's only start this season came in the defeat at Peterborough in November.

He has made five other appearances as a substitute. The last was in the goalless draw at Millwall last month.

“Doyle is a centre forward he played right side of midfield at peterborough at he was dreadfull. when switch up front that day he was better.”

“Well isn't it a catch 22 situation. Fans are still monaing that the club hasn't moved forward so do you continue to put out your best XI in the hope of getting more points and NC best points tally to date.

Or... blood a few youngster to give them experience in the first team? I would def like to see Naylor now given a run of games, Hughes at least making a few sub appearances and Carroll going back to spurs.

Regarding Doyle, another light weight player who at one time must've shown something that NC saw but has shown very little since.”

“Haven't been at all impressed with Conor Doyle when he has played/come on. One thing that we definitely have to do is NOT play injured players. If anyone needs an op do it now, don't wait until August like we usually do.”

“I'm never happy to hear about injuries to players but the amount we have had the past few seasons, you have to wonder - are the fitness/physio staff not up to the task; are the players not looking after themselves; are they just freak, coincidences for seemingly injury prone players.

In short I don't know but our injury record is quite bad.

Re Doyle, he's worse than Gary Teale. I know many fellow rams fans who don't rate Doyle either. How is he here? Alledgedly, his uncle is linked to the board.

Other fringe players who are out on loan should be recalled and given a chance. Lee Croft can play right back but might have burned his bridges with being Mr Celebrity TV with Maria Fowler.

Addison and Maguire are a bizarre situation all round.

Agree Legzdins and the youngsters should be getting a chance though.”

“Good posting, wouldn't say that Carroll and Noble are poor players, wrong time wrong place.
These fringe players should have a chance, but for me Mason Bennett should be playing at his age level and scoring loads of goals, so young that has plenty of time to be brought through to the first team. Callum Ball has ability no doubt. Naylor has to play at some point! Can't work out the Maguire situation, Addison not the nest of starts at Bournemouth (must affect you being farmed out on loan though) I really thought he had a future.”

“it's an interesting point - now that we are effectively safe, something we now experience something that I can't remember as a fan of DCFC - mid table obscurity. Do we then use this opportunity to really take a look at some players that have been on the fringes this season to see if they are going to make to be able to make the side next year and drive us towards promotion??

Surely the likes of Bennett, Hughes, Naylor, Ball etc should get game time between now and the end of the season. Maybe even have a little look at Legdzins, not saying that he will replace Fielding at all who has been brilliant, but to see if he can be a more reliable no2 then Deeney.

Do we also take the opportunity to take some young players on trial, take possible transfer targets on short term loans to get a look at them.

But all this raises a massive failing on NC's behalf - Why has Maguire and Addison gone out on loan, to get game time, when it was reasonably foreseeable that we would find ourselves in this situation. Surely the time between now and the end of the season would have been ideal to get a look to see how Miles has recovered and if Maguire can show the talent that we signed him for, rather than them sitting on some bench or losing every week at Portsmouth.

NC talks the long term plan - then sends on loan two promising youngsters who are more than likely going to be contracted to us next season, and gets in two poor premier league youngsters in Noble and Carroll, wasting time, money and effort bringing through other teams players rather than concentrating on our own. With the current board we won't have the money to bring in the quality we need, we are going to need to develop it and not permitting them the chance to shine in a relatively pressure free environment from now to the end of the season is simply ridiculous. Also it allows NC to make a closer inspection of the players, if they can't cut it, then he will KNOW this from training and watching them play and can move them on in the summer to make room on our meager wage bill for hungry and skilled permanent signings.”
