Bold Lane's Parksafe car park in Derby to feature in American documentary
A CAR park in Derby which claims it is the "world's safest" is being featured in an American documentary.
A camera crew visited Parksafe, in Bold Lane, yesterday to shoot some footage for an programme called Extreme Parking.
The crew decided to feature the Derby lot to find out how it has used hi-tech security equipment to remain crime-free for more than a decade.
Producer Eric Michell said he thought American audiences would be fascinated by Parksafe.

He said: "People know Fort Knox and they know how safe it is.
"Parksafe is right up there and I think the audience will be interested to see why."
Parksafe, based at Shottle, has been running the 440-space car park since 1998, during which time there have been no crimes reported there.
The year before the £200,000 refit, there were 120 reports of car theft or car break-ins at the Bold Lane site.
At the 440-space site, drivers use a credit-card style key issued at the barrier to get in and out.
The key also activates the security system which sets off an alarm if the car is moved.
There are also 190 CCTV cameras, automatic entry gates, panic buttons on many of the car park's pillars and each car which enters and exits is photographed from 360 degrees by hi-tech camera equipment.
Mr Michell said the show would also feature car parks from all round the world.
He said: "We feature a place in Singapore which is the car park for a luxury apartment block.
"People drive their cars into a space which is then raised like an elevator cart up level with their apartment.
"The sides are made of glass and it attaches to the outside of their wall so they can see their own car from their living room.
"We also have a bloke who had always wanted this old Ferrari and, because it was too expensive, painted it perfectly on to the side of his garage."
The documentary will be shown on the Travel Channel and will be screened first in the US. The UK air date is not yet known.
Parksafe owner Ken Wigley had parked an armoured car outside the Bold Lane site yesterday as an appropriate filming prop for the crew.
He said: "It's a real compliment to be picked for the programme and it will show people why we are the world's safest car park.
"I hope it draws people to the city.
"My only disappointment with the way Parksafe has developed is that there isn't one in every city in the country."

“Being a bit of a gadget nut, I'd love to see this program, but what on earth is the Travel Channel?!”
