COUNCILLORS have voted to make £26.84 million of budget cuts during a heated meeting of Tory-led Derbyshire County Council in Matlock this afternoon.

They also approved a freeze on increasing council tax - a decision criticised by the opposition Labour group, which said a 2% increase, in line with other authorities, would have generated £5.5 million.

“In fact, the whole thing absolutely stinks.

A council forces a 2% increase in council tax, meaning that the central government through the welfare state has to issue more gilts, putting the country more into debt, only to distribute that borrowed money to the benefit claimants, and then directly back to the councils who decided on the rise in the first place!!!

Then they'll all get payrises and buy up all the assets of the country. The system is as rotten as a gangrened phallus.”

I hate to defend any of the tri-party system but I have to agree with the Blue's on this one. Can we not get out of this cycle of spreadsheet economics where 1.99% multiplied by council tax paying households = £5.5m funds. Does that take into account those that will be bankrupted because of it, does it take into account those in receipt of council tax benefit, which increases the public borrowing and therefore the national debt every month?

The monetary system combined with human nature is abhorrent IMHO.”
