LUKE Gunn will make his final bid for the Beijing Olympics

tonight after a late change of plan.

The 23-year-old steeplechaser is running in a

specially-arranged race in Watford alongside fellow Olympic

hopeful Adam Bowden.

Bowden and Gunn both claimed the top two spots in the 3000m

event in Sunday’s nailbiting National Championships and Beijing

Trials at Birmingham.

The pair still need to beat the Olympic A standard time of

8mins 24.90secs to qualify for next month’s games – after

pipping the two runners who already have the time, Andrew

Lemoncello and Stuart Stokes, to the line in Sunday’s crucial

race.

Gunn had initially hoped to compete in a prestigious Grand Prix

race in Paris on Friday but decided it was too close to the

deadline for Olympic selection, which takes place at midnight

on the same night.

“Me and Adam are both in the same boat,” said Gunn. “We’ve

decided to team up for this race, purely to get the time. He

came first and I was second on Sunday but I don’t care who

beats who tonight, it’s all about the time.”

The race will take place at Woodside Stadium at 8.30pm.
