A SUSPECTED terrorist

arrested in Derby in connection with a plot to kill Prime Minister Gordon Brown was charged this morning.

Krenar Lusha was

arrested at his home in Moore

Street, Normanton on Tuesday, August 26 by

anti-terror police for alleged offences under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The move was part of

an anti-terror operation, investigating threats to kill Prime Minister Gordon

Brown, which saw four other arrests made last

month.

This morning he was

charged with three offences under the Act.

The offences relate to

allegedly possessing four kilograms of potassium nitrate for use in a terrorist

act and possessing information on how to make explosives and bombs between

January 1 and August 27 this year.

He is expected to

appear at City of Westminster

Magistrates Court in London tomorrow.

Four other men have

already been charged in relation to this operation.

It is understood no

actual plot was in place but that officers from Lancashire Constabulary and

Greater Manchester Counter Terrorism Unit discovered a written threat on an

extremist website earlier this year.

Officers spent several

day searching Mr Lusha’s house and two cars parked near the house were taken

away by police for forensic examination.

Last week police were

given an extra week to question him and had until tomorrow to charge him or they

would have had to apply for a further extension.

The other men arrested

in connection with the alleged terror plot are brothers Abbas Iqbal, 23, Ilyas

Iqbal, 21, and Ishaq Kanmi, 22, were arrested at Manchester Airport and in

Accrington on August 14, and Muhammad Ali Mumtaz Ahmad, 24, of Blackburn, was

detained on August 26.

All four have since

been charged and remanded in custody after also appearing before City of

Westminster

Magistrates' Court.

City Councillor Fareed

Hussain said the news of the arrest  and charge had shocked people in Derby.

He said: “Those of us

who work hard in Derby to create a harmonious community locally

will be disappointed to see our efforts being undermined by a few people who are

dangerous and extremely misguided.

“We must remain

vigilant and ensure that the mutual respect we are built over many years is not

destroyed by these people who are trying to sow the seeds of hatred between

us.”

“i wonder whether it will stick on court. 4kgs of potassium nitrate, instructions to make a bomb between a period of time (suggesting he may not have had them on him now).

Well at least it wasn't a total hoax.”
