BURNLEY winger Alex MacDonald will remain on loan at Burton Albion until May 8.

The Brewers have struck a deal to extend the 22-year-old's stay at the Pirelli Stadium beyond the initial month agreed with the Clarets.

MacDonald, who has made five starts for Burton so far, would not be available to play in the League Two play-off final, should Gary Rowett's be involved, as it will fall beyond the maximum 93 days' loan allowed under Football League rules.

"It's a massive boost for us to retain the services of Alex," said manager Rowett, whose side take on promotion rivals Cheltenham Town at home today.

"He's a good player with real potential. He's been getting better and better for us and gives the side real balance on the right of midfield."
