Bullied girl stars in TV drama show
FROM moving schools because of bullying to acting in ITV's latest period drama – there's no doubt that Stephanie Duffy has come a long way.
The 10-year-old actress, from Holbrook, is playing Isabella in Wuthering Heights – the classic love story by Emily Bronte.
Her parents, Clare and David, said they felt" "immensely proud" of their daughter as they watched her filming for the show at a stately home in Yorkshire.
The second of the two-part series is on tonight at 9pm, after the first part aired yesterday.
Clare, of Moorside Lane, said her daughter's teachers had always said she had a flair for acting. And when she and David found out she was being bullied, they enrolled her in the Ripley Academy of Dance and Drama to build her confidence up.
Clare said: "We moved her away from her previous school, where she was being bullied, to Holbrook Primary School for a fresh start, and at the same time she enrolled at the academy. We were delighted when we found out she got the part in Wuthering Heights. It showed how far she has come."
Stephanie also played extras parts in costume drama Lark Rise to Candleford, shown on the BBC in 2007, and last year she was an extra in BBC1 soap Doctors and drama Mistresses.
Stephanie said she was not nervous about performing in Wuthering Heights.
"It was exciting and it made me happy," she said. "When I'm older I either want to be a pop star or an actress."
Stephanie found out about the auditions through her drama teacher at the academy, Diane Fleming.
She said: "Stephanie loves to perform and this experience has given her the enthusiasm to develop her acting skills further."
