PAUL Peschisolido was a relieved man when the transfer window slammed shut at 5pm on Monday night, leaving him a squad that, in general, he is very happy with.

The Burton Albion manager had started to convince himself, with a fortnight of January left, that some players in his squad would attract attention from bigger clubs in search of bargains.

In the event, it was only Hereford United's wooing of centre-half Tony James that Peschisolido had to worry about.

"Hereford had rung us two or three times with cheeky little inquiries about Tony but there had been nothing concrete," said Peschisolido.

"Then they came in with what was, in fairness, a pretty decent bid for a player of Tony's age.

"And, coming from his home town club, it wasn't a surprise that he might be tempted.

"But it says a great deal about this club and how far we've come that he wanted to stay.

"I'm pleased he's chosen us over a club on his doorstep who were in League One not so long ago."

The James drama aside, it was a relatively quiet lead up to the closing of the window, with winger Marc Gooodfellow going to Kidderminster Harriers on loan and Guy Branston agreeing to join Torquay United on loan until the end of the season.

Peschisolido (pictured) was delighted to secure three of his own loan players on longer deals, with Steve Kabba, Cleveland Taylor and Tom Parkes all converting initial 28-day stays into deals for the rest of the season.
