ROOKIE goalkeeper Shane Redmond is set to keep his place in the Burton Albion line-up when they return to League Two action at home to Accrington Stanley tonight (7.45pm).

It will be a home league debut for the Republic of Ireland under-21 international, who was impressive in the Brewers' 1-0 defeat at League One Gillingham in the FA Cup second round on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Nottingham Forest loanee did a lot to bury the memories of the first day of the season, when he conceded two bad goals in Burton's 3-1 defeat at Shrewsbury Town.

He returned on Saturday because Polish keeper Artur Krysiak had picked up a hip injury in last Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Crewe Alexandra.

Krysiak is training again and could be fit but manager Paul Peschisolido is almost certain to stay with his usual policy of retaining the man with the shirt if they have done nothing to deserve being left out.

Another factor is the continuing saga of Krysiak's possible permanent transfer to Burton from current parent club Birmingham City.

The Brewers had agreed a fee with the Blues to buy the Polish under-19 international when his loan spell ends in January.

But the deal stalled over the personal terms Krysiak's agents were attempting to negotiate.

And now the change of ownership at Birmingham has led to a reassessment of the situation.

Once it became clear that Birmingham would release Krysiak at the end of the season, Burton could see no reason to pay a transfer fee.

"Artur won't be getting a regular game if he goes back to Birmingham in January, so we have asked if they will extend his loan until the end of the season," said Peschisolido.

"They have said yes – but now they want a loan fee – which we are not prepared to pay.

"So the ball's in Birmingham's court. They'll have to change their demands.

"But I hope the chances are we'll still be able to come to an agreement."

There seems little doubt that the continuing uncertainty has affected Krysiak's form, with the keeper looking shaky in recent games.

But Peschisolido still has faith in him.

"He's made a few errors in the last few games but he has a lot of athleticism and, of course, he's still young," said the manager.

"I still think he has a bright future in the game."

Burton are still waiting to hear the result of a scan on the knee ligament injury sustained by right-back Ryan Austin in the Gillingham game.

"The worst case scenario is probably something like three months out for Ryan and anything shorter than that will be a bonus," said Peschisolido.

"It wasn't looking good when he came in on Monday morning – it had swollen up a lot.

"But, remember, we thought Jimmy Phillips would be out for the season when he was first injured and he's fine, so you never know for sure."

With Andy Corbett having suffered a slight setback in his bid to shake off an abductor muscle injury, Aaron Brown is set to continue at right-back tonight, while left-back Paul Boertien is also ready to rejoin the squad after a near six-week absence with a knee injury.

Peschisolido left out Phillips and Keith Gilroy from the match-day squad at Gillingham but, favouring a more positive approach at home tonight, is likely to restore both to the 18 on duty.

Such an approach should also be good news for new loan signing Steve Kabba, who ploughed a largely fruitless lone furrow up front as Burton played 4-5-1 at Gillingham.

"Steve had to do a job at Gillingham and he worked hard," said Peschisolido.

"There were glimpses of what he can do but he also hasn't played too much football lately.

"Tonight, we'll hopefully be able to give him a lot more support up front and we should see more from him."

Peschisolido is still pondering who may partner Kabba up front.

"It's a tough decision," he said.

"Gary Rowett and I have looked at every game, every striking partnership and which ones have won us points this season.

"The answers surprised us – but I might still change my mind again before the game!"
