Burton Albion unlikely to pursue former Derby County Player of the Year Youl Mawene
BURTON Albion are unlikely to pursue their interest in former Derby County Player of the Year Youl Mawene.
The 32-year-old French centre-half trained with the Brewers all week but was a surprise omission from the squad which opened the club's pre-season campaign with a 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa on Saturday.
"Youl trained with us all week. He's done great and he's a terrific character but I just said to him that, at this moment in time, I don't think he's quite what I'm looking for," said Burton manager Gary Rowett.
"We've left the door open for him if he wants to come and train again but we won't be taking it any further.

"We're a couple of days away from taking someone in that position, so it was only fair to let Youl know."
Defenders Carl Martin (released by Crewe Alexandra), Paul Downing (ex-West Bromwich Albion) and Marcus Holness (released by Rochdale) did take part in the game and Holness, a former defensive partner of current Brewers captain Nathan Stanton, appears the likeliest signing of the three.

“Probably the best decision that the Brewers could make.”
