Forestieri, who has been on loan at Vicarage Road, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

The 22-year-old, who was born in Argentina but has represented Italy at under-21 level, has scored three goals in 15 appearances for the Hornets so far.

He said: "I'm unbelievably happy to be signing for Watford. I have enjoyed the town and the club so far, as well as the support of the fans.

"Life feels good at Watford and it feels like home. I love working with people here and I feel protected. I will give my heart for the club."

Watford boss Gianfranco Zola added: "This is very positive news for the club. Fernando has done extremely well in a short spell with us so far."

"Everybody can see how good Fernando can be and we'll be working hard with him to improve further."

IN-FORM Watford striker Matej Vydra has emerged as a target for Southampton and West Ham United.

The 20-year-old Czech Republic international is on loan at Vicarage Road from Italian club Udinese and has netted 14 goals for the Hornets this season.

WEST Ham United are weighing up a £4m bid to sign Blackburn Rovers defender Martin Olsson.

The Swedish international is keen to return to the Premier League and Hammers boss Sam Allardyce could look to bolster his back line during the January transfer window.

IPSWICH Town have been linked with a swoop for Colchester United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth.

The 24-year-old's contract at Colchester is due to expire at the end of this season.

Charlton Athletic are also reported to be interested in signing the player.

WEST Ham United, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City are believed to be keen on Middlesbrough defender George Friend.

Friend has been in good form since joining Boro from Doncaster Rovers.

PLYMOUTH Argyle’s teenage goalkeeper Christian Walton is attracting interest from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 17-year-old is yet to play a first-team game for the League Two club but is rated as a good prospect.

“Watford now have a great manager with the ambition to sign class players. Pity that we are the antithesis of all this. Mediocre manager, **** owners, no ambition other than "we'll aim for the top ten and see where it takes us" Absolute ****! Good luck Watford and Zola!”
