MATLOCK CC's Cameron Orr is locked in a close battle for the under-14 prize in the Notts & Derby Cyclo-cross League with Harry Lewis, his rival from Nottinghamshire's Sherwood Pines club.

Orr made light work of the especially muddy conditions in the 12th round of the league at Thornbridge Outdoors, near Bakewell.

He finished more than a minute ahead of Lewis and has beaten him more often than not this season.

But Lewis has raced every round and goes into the final round, on January 19 at Darley Moor, near Ashbourne, with a five-point advantage.

In the under-12s race, Matlock's Tim Elsmore-Martin took his first win of the campaign.

He led from the start but was caught towards the end by visiting rider Charlie Craig, son of former national champion Nick.

However, Elsmore-Martin found a bit more on the last lap and went past Craig for a two-second win at the line.

In the under-nine race, Matlock's Sam Gould bounced back from his only defeat of the season, in the previous round, to win by 40 seconds, from club-mate Alex Gordon.

In a senior race packed with nationally-ranked visiting riders, David Fletcher had the better of Nick Craig.

The first local rider to finish, on his home course, was Tom Last, from great Longstone.
