Car catches fire while owner carries out repair works

A CAR caught fire while its owner was working on it in Derby this afternoon.

Crews were called to the blaze, in Shaftesbury Street South, Pear Tree, shortly before 2pm.

They spent 30 minutes tackling the flames before extinguishing the fire.

The owner was not hurt and firefighters left at 2.40pm.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "The owner was working on the car when it just caught alight."
