Caribbean island love story
NOTTINGHAM Playhouse's latest show is certainly daring to be different.
The Playhouse's Theatre Company presents Once On This Island, a musical with aspects of Rosa Guy's novel My Love, My Love, Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, and elements of the Romeo and Juliet story, all set in the French Antilles.

Described as "a fairy tale of love put to the ultimate test, while set to calypso and reggae rhythms", it tells the story of a beautiful peasant girl who saves the life of a handsome and wealthy Creole planter and becomes utterly devoted to him.
After premiering in 1994, Once On This Island went on to win an Olivier Award for best new musical following a successful West End run. The show is directed by Suzie McKenna.
Leading an ensemble cast is West End and TV star Sharon D Clarke.
It can be seen until Saturday, July 11. Call 0115 941 9419 for details.
