A CHILDREN'S centre in Alvaston was opening officially today.

The centre, which provides early learning facilities and care for children under five and their families, is based on the site of Lakeside Community Primary School.

It has been operational since February but the official opening was being performed by Councillor Les Allen, cabinet member for children and young people Andrew Flack, director of children's services between 10am and 12 noon.

Children's centres also provide family support, training and employment advice and health services to children and families.
