A DERBY-BORN champion racer aiming to break a world record by travelling more than 19,000 miles on his bike has reached Thailand

Cyclist Vin Cox will visit six different continents and cross more than 20 countries during his Great Bike Ride.

The 34-year-old cyclo-cross champion is hoping to complete the 19,119-mile trip in less than 175 days in the hope of securing a world record.

Mr Cox, who now lives in Cornwall, is posting updates of his journey on his website, www.greatbikeride.com.

He wrote: "Loving Thailand despite a head wind."

Mr Cox began his ride from Greenwich on February 7.

He has a fund-raising target of £18,000 for the Geoff Thomas Foundation, which helps blood-cancer patients.
