BIRMINGHAM City defender David Murphy will be sidelined for at least six weeks after an exploratory knee operation.

The left-back’s absence has prompted the Blues to extend former West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers defender Paul Robinson’s short-term deal at the club until January 27.

The 29-year-old will be available for the Bluebirds’ trip to Barnsley on Saturday and will stay with the Welsh club until January.

FORMER Derby County defender Lewin Nyatanga has undergone an operation on a hernia problem which has kept him out of the Bristol City side for the past four games.

The Welshman is expected to miss the next two to three weeks as he completes his recovery.

The 24-year-old has started just three npower Championship matches for Derek McInnes’ side so far this season and will have to wait until next month to force his way back into the side.

BARNSLEY have signed Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonathan Greening on loan.

The 33-year-old, who has played in the Premier League for Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion, will stay at Oakwell until January 2.
