I THOUGHT your readers would like to hear an amusing story of what happened during the war.

I was called up and put in RA Regiment on anti-aircraft guns. We went from city to city all over Britain.

Every time we had a day off, whichever city we were in, four of us used to go and ask for four teas and 12 chocolate eclairs knowing this would never happen.

We were posted to Seaton in Devon, went into the little cafe, sat down and said 'four teas please, my duck, and can we have 12 eclairs?'. She came back with the teas and placed a cake stand in the middle of the table with 12 chocolate eclairs.

Imagine our disbelief at this. We never asked for chocolate eclairs again.
