Chocolate-maker plans to close its store in King Street, Belper
DERBYSHIRE chocolate-maker Thorntons is to close one of its stores in the county.
The Somercotes-based firm has confirmed it is shutting its King Street store in Belper.
The move is part of a company-wide plan to reduce its number of retail outlets.
Thorntons currently has 506 stores, 317 of which it runs, with 189 operated by franchisees.

The company is looking to reduce the number of stores it owns in order to make the business more profitable. It wants to bring the number down to about 180.
Last month, the company reported positive trading figures for the festive period, which showed that sales increased by £4.5 million to £88 million.
But the performance was largely driven by sales through supermarkets.
The firm said it was continuing with its plans to concentrate on supermarket sales.
It has confirmed that the Belper store would be closing in June and that it would look to redeploy affected staff to nearby stores.
