Chris the axeman cometh
By Zena Hawley
TOUTED as "the greatest guitarist that Megadeth have ever had", Chris Broderick can't wait to play Download this summer.
THRASH IT OUT: Megadeth are ready to rock Download.
The praise came from no less a figure than the band's singer and lead guitarist, the legendary Dave Mustaine.
They will bring their legendary thrash sound to Donington Park for the fourth time in June.

Chris, who joined Megadeth in 2008, is currently on the Rust in Peace 20th Anniversary Tour in the USA.
"Everything has been going great so far," he said.
"All the shows are sold out and I feel as if I have been in the band forever.
"I have settled in really well and everyone has made me feel very welcome."
Chris, who hails from Lakewood Colorado, was formerly the lead guitarist and keyboard for Jag Panzer and sometime guitarist for Nevermore.
As well as playing Monsters of Rock, Megadeth have played Download twice before in 2005 and 2007.
"I'm definitely looking forward to the Donington gig.
"I have never been there before with a band or to watch," said Chris.
"Becoming part of such a big band was a really huge thing for me. At first when I was getting ready to go on stage I felt as if my head was going to pop.
"It can be a bit overwhelming being under the microscope and fans will inevitably compare you with people who have done the job before."
Megadeth were formed in 1983 by Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, following Mustaine's departure from Metallica.
The band has since released 12 studio albums, six live albums, two EPs, 26 singles, 32 music videos and three compilations.
As a pioneer of the American thrash metal movement, Megadeth rose to international fame in the 1980s and were ranked as one of the "Big Four of Thrash," along with Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax.
In the band's 25 active years, Megadeth have had 20 official members, with Chris being one of the latest recruits.
"I was unfamiliar with Download some years ago but now everyone seems to be talking about it," said Chris.
"With headliners such as AC/DC and Aerosmith we are in good company and I can easily believe we will be playing to around 100,000 people.
"We have another North American tour starting in Canada later in the year and before that some more European dates on the Endgame tour."
These include Italy, Holland, Belgium, Denmark and Switzerland, as well two dates in Moscow in July.
Chris said: "I think playing Russia will be really interesting.
"Maybe the Russians aren't as exposed to live music as much as people in the West so I expect them to be even more enthusiastic.
"It's going to be one exciting year for all of us.
"There are stand-out concerts all over but we are all really up for the Download event which comes in the middle of it all.
"Now I'd better get back to the boys and get some practice in..."
