SOUL-influenced "sophisti-pop" is on offer in Derby on Friday when The Christians play The Flowerpot.

The Liverpool band scored several chart hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s and were among the groups which had strong links to UK punk rock, New Wave and post-punk.

Their first three singles all made the Top 40 in Britain, and their debut album The Christians (1987) entered the UK album chart at No 2.

In 1988 they released a charity cover of the Isley Brothers' Harvest for the World.

The band's name comes from the surname of the three brothers in the original line-up. Sadly, Roger Christian died in 1998 from a brain tumour. The band now has a new line-up.

You can see them at The Flowerpot, King Street, Derby, on Friday. Doors open 8pm and admission is £13. Advance tickets from www.rawpromo.co.uk or call 01332 834438.
