Cinderella at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal: Stars sparkle in a spectacular pantomime.
By Sarah Colston
With an eclectic cast, Europe’s largest theatre group, Qdos Entertainment, and producer Michael Harrison present a memorable evening of fast paced comedy, fabulous sets and outrageous costumes.

This classic rags-to-riches story follows Cinderella; played by award-winning stage actress Aimee Atkinson, wistfully dreaming of escaping a life of drudgery and the persecution wrought by her two ugly sisters Tulisa and Nicole. Played with malicious panto-baddy relish by Martin Ramsdin and David Robbins these gifted actors generate a cacophony of boos with every appearance.
Cinderella confides in her friend Buttons that her dream is to meet a prince Charming. The story then unfolds in time honoured fashion. The joy is not finding out how this fairy tale will end, but rather our spirits are repeatedly lifted by a script confidently delivered by a superb ensemble cast.

Undoubted stars of the show are anarchic comedy duo the ‘Grumbleweeds’, Graham Walker and Robert Colvill. With comedic skills honed on a long running radio 2 show, the pair, playing The Brookers Men, are the icing on the festive cake. With riotous slapstick, and mesmerising wordplay they cavort hilariously in a variety of contemporary disguises. A brief, nearly naked, episode on roller skates almost takes the roof off.
Marquee names include EastEnders’ heart-throb John Partridge. Picture-perfect for the role of Prince Charming his dashing looks and gleaming set of pearly whites convince us that Cinderella will fall for his charms.
Making dreams come true is self-professed ‘Cool and classy, sexy and sassy’ fairy godmother, American actress, and singer with the legendary trio ‘The Three Degrees’, Sheila Ferguson. She captivates the audience with a larger than life personality and, no surprise here, her fantastic singing voice.
This show is the perfect Christmas hamper. Stuffed full of goodies and surprises. Take the kids. They will love it.
