City council workers hope their pantomime will be the cat's whiskers
OH yes they are! Derby City Council employees are hoping to put on a purrrr-fect performance of Dick Whittington and his cat.
Staff are preparing to tread the boards as they take part in the authority's first ever pantomime – called DiCC Whittington.
Directed by Derby Live's creative producer, Pete Meakin, it tells the famous story of orphan Dick, who journeys to London in search of his fortune but ends up trading on the rat-catching abilities of his cat.
Staff are busy rehearsing for the production, which will be staged at the Guildhall Theatre from Wednesday, February 6, to Saturday, February 9.

.
"The question has to be asked about whether any 'work time' has been spent rehearsing and preparing for this."
No Sadie no work time is being used all rehersals are done in our own time.

is Pete Meakin doing this for free or are the council tax payers funding his time?
and how exactly will "our young people, no matter what their background" be able to afford the £10 tickets? or is Mr Wilkinson just talking out of his bonnet again?....."
No Pete Meakin is not being paid for his time and neither are any of the other council workers taking part and over half the tickets were given away to disadvantaged familys and the rest have been put on public sale with any profits made going to the two charitys listed in the artical.”

“I hear they're already planning future pantomimes:
2013 - Snow White ( not cleared from major routes ) and the Seven excuses
2014 - Jack & the council house full of Skunk-weed Stalks
2015 - Peter Canned ( on cheap cider, cos there are no Trading Standards staff to check up on under age sales )
2016 - Weeping Beauty ( they sell off all the parks to pay for the Chief Execs bonus )
2017 - Ali Baba & the Forty Fake Fag shops - sponsored by Jin Ling
2018 - Blingerella - free admission for gang members
What a band of thespians”

“it's amazing the number of red arrows that appear whenever comments could be construed as implying some criticism of the council or their staff - perhaps someone at the council has too much spare time on their hands......”

“It was satirical - the best way to respond to a farce surely..
There was certainly an element of too many cooks, but there's slimming down & whole sale carnage. And the sense of glee c/o certain DCC big wigs was a thing to behold. No doubt some people made good of a bad situation, but for many there has been only misery, uncertainty & oblivion.
I look forward to seeing DiCC Whittington however... I wonder where the money is coming from to book the Guildhall for 4/5 nights...??”

“oops pressed submit too soon....
to follow on from Sadies question - if they are spending any work time rehearsing for this production, it would suggest that the axe has perhaps not cut deep enough - is Pete Meakin doing this for free or are the council tax payers funding his time?
and how exactly will "our young people, no matter what their background" be able to afford the £10 tickets? or is Mr Wilkinson just talking out of his bonnet again?.....”

“you paint a very black picture ian.....I have a friend who retired early from the council - he couldn't have been happier when they granted his request....and why do you assume all those that have left are now earning a pittance? last time I was made redundant, I found a new job that paid more money....
The fact of the matter is that the council were over-staffed and these austerity measures will hopefully mean that the council is able to live within its budget - something that anyone who cares for the future of the city should be in favour of....”
