City councillor resigns
A LIBERAL Democrat councillor has resigned due to ill health.
Deirdre Mitchell, who represented Abbey ward, left Derby City Council yesterday.
Council and Lib Dem group leader Councillor Hilary Jones, said: "Deirdre Mitchell has given years of service to local people – firstly caring for people as a cancer doctor and then as a local councillor.
"Now, after years of public service she is under doctor's orders to put her own health first, and we all wish her well."
Ms Mitchell's four-year term as a councillor was due to end at the next local election, normally held on the first Thursday in May.
And because her resignation is within six months of that election, when she would have had to defend her seat if she had not resigned, it means there will not be a by-election.
The seat will instead remain vacant until next year's local election.

“Although I have no knowledge of her political activities I am very aware of her professional care in the development of haemotology department at DRI. I am sure that she would have given the same consideration to her work on the council. As one whose quality of life was improved by her care I hope that her own health will improve.”

“Thank you for our kind words Cliff, South Derbyshire. My intelligence does allow me to access the talents of those working gently and quietly to achieve goals for the good of their specific area of representation? My problem is that in the almost complete absense of these works it is difficult to assess the effectiveness of them.”

“r, Derby! How unkind of you! I'm not a Lib Dem supporter, but I realise that those with the biggest mouths don't always make the best politicians!! Perhaps your intelligence does not allow you to access the talents of those working gently and quietly to achieve goals for the good of their specific area of representation?”

“Who? never heard of her or any of her doings. I rather suspect she's been resting on the back benches nodding to the tunes played by the leadership. Roll on a bi-election lets see if the Darley voters want an ACTIVE councillor or are content with a photo on a Lib/Dem news-sheet.”
