TOP-RANKED women's player Yasmin Clarke has got her year off to a promising start by winning her first AEGON British Tour title.

The 21-year-old is attempting to accrue points to help her qualify for the British Tour Masters at the end of the year.

The tour, which has two levels – Tier One and Tier Two – sees the top 14 point scorers from both tiers invited to compete in separate Masters in December.

Clarke, of Normanton, received a bye in the first round at the tournament, at the Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre, Sheffield, before beating Natalie Wall 6-2, 6-1.

The top seed then followed this up with a 6-3, 6-1 win over sixth seed Amy Hoburn and a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Emilia Banos-Gregorians, seeded fifth.

In the final, she claimed the title by beating the seventh seed Georgia Craven 7-6(1), 6-2.

Her father, Earol, said: "Yasmin has done incredibly well and continues to show just how talented and hard-working she is. She's had some very good wins against some difficult players, which bodes well for the rest of her year."
