NIGEL Clough has dismissed a report that says Derby County are set to make an offer for Nottingham Forest striker Dexter Blackstock.

The report said Derby would make their move immediately after Saturday's Championship clash between the East Midlands rivals.

But after the 1-1 draw at Pride Park, in which Blackstock came on as a 63rd-minute substitute, Clough said: "We had a little chuckle over that (the report).

"Funnily enough, we did not go straight into the Forest dressing room after the game and make an offer for him."

Blackstock has been with Forest since 2008. He signed from Queens Park Rangers and his current deal is due to expire in the summer.

The 26-year-old scored three goals in nine appearances during a loan spell at Derby in 2005 while he was playing for Southampton.

Last week, Derby allowed Nathan Tyson to join Millwall on loan until the end of the season and it is unlikely there will be any new arrivals in the January transfer window unless there are other outgoings.

“Does anyone thing that maybe this little story was concocted to unsettle forest a bit before our game?”

“Actually Derby did put in an offer for Blackstock, but, the packet of chewits were the wrong flavour.”

“I see that the 'floating fans' actually remembered where Pride Park was on Saturday. Amazing.

Leeds managed to pull in 18,000 so its not just Derby who are suffering in this economic climate. If buying Dexter Blackstock pulled in the 4,000 missing glory hunters I would eat my underpants.”

“Yeah, I'm laughing it off too Nigel. It's not as if we need a striker who actually knows how to control the ball and hit the back of the net, is it?

At least we have Ward back. Now we can claim to be playing with two strikers whilst actally playing the 'beloved' 4-5-1.

Worked a treat on Saturday, eh?

I know it was just media speculation that linked us with a move for Blackstock, but it created a bit of a buzz on Saturday with people getting a lift from the speculation that, despite the £8million loss, there was a brief illusion we were actually involved in some transfer activity that backed the talk about being focussed on returning to the Premiership.

As usual, it was rubbish and the reality is more cuts. It's this kind of thing that keeps the floating fans away, because for every few decent results, signs of improvement, there's the reality of defeats, draws and cost cutting.

Floating fans (some call them glory seekers, but their cash is vital) just don't buy the spin. They see a mid-table side, losing money, still making cuts. That's not a club on the up, it's a club treading water.

Still, at least we've got our biggest wage earner off the books, so GSE will be happier.”
