The ball bobbled up off a stray coffee cup which was among the litter swirling around the pitch.
The ball came off the keeper's shin and dropped invitingly to Rams striker Paul Peschisolido, who guided his finish into an empty net.

"I saw the ball bobble and come off the keeper's shin, and I thought 'it's Christmas'," said Peschisolido.
After conceding such a bizarre goal, Roche said: "I'm devastated. I'm sure it will be run and run on A Question of Sport."

“Lol I remember this game it was on a live beam back to the Pitch Diner at the City Ground. Joe Kinnear was manager I think. Anyway, your lot need something to cheer yourselves up as there's nothing around at the minute is there? Even beating Old Fester can't be too pleasing for you, I mean, it really really did give us a great help out in the chance of a playoff spot lol. How does that feel to really help us out? And even better, we are now above Derby and Leicester even if it's just for a short while... THANK YOU VERRRYYYYY MUCH :)”
