THE mugshot of a conman who posed as the brother of comedian Peter Kay and ran off with cash donated to the Lewis Mighty Fund has been featured on Crimewatch.

Peter Stead, the bogus entertainer who called himself Danny Kay, conned money out of well-wishers from across Derby by offering to put on stand-up shows in pubs and clubs in return for appeal donations.

But he never returned to perform the gigs after being given the cash up-front and has not been seen since his story was featured in the Derby Telegraph in August last year.

Last night, his face was splashed across television screens on the BBC programme in a bid to trace him.

The Lewis Mighty Fund was launched to raise £300,000 to send Lewis, from Mackworth, to America for cutting-edge treatment to boost his chances of survival.

It came after the five-year-old's parents, Jaime and Perry, were told the youngster had just a 20% chance of surviving last year due to having a rare form of cancer.

The Mighty family now hope the public will help police catch the bogus entertainer, who ran off with hundreds of pounds, now that the story has been featured on Crimewatch.

Anyone with information about the man's whereabouts is asked to call Derbyshire police on 0345 1233333 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
